Dept. of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of California Berkeley

A story of "cervello that goes back" and forth: from Italy to the US, from the US to Italy.
Prof. Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli shares an interesting story from 1977 when he declared he wasn’t just another “brain drain” leaving Italy but rather a “brain that goes back”—even though he’s still based in Berkeley. He explains that his real job is being a professor, even as he helped launch two multi-billion-dollar companies. Prof. Sangiovanni-Vincentelli also talks about his connections in Italy and how tricky Italian laws can be. He dives into the origins of ISSNAF, which he helped start, and wraps up with some valuable advice for young Italian scholars making their way to North America.
Prof. Sangiovanni-Vincentelli is an ISSNAF Founder and a member of the ISSNAF Board of Directors.
