MOBILITY PROGRAM

The ISSNAF Mobility Program supports academic and research experiences to Italian university students or researchers at institutions in North America. Leveraging its extensive network of members, ISSNAF has long fostered relationships with Italian universities and offered mobility opportunities to deserving Italian scholars.

​

In recent years, ISSNAF has formalized this initiative by signing cooperation agreements with Italian universities and schools of advanced studies. These partnerships provide exceptional opportunities for students and researchers to collaborate with ISSNAF members and affiliates at leading universities and research centers across North America.

​

In 2023, ISSNAF received funding from the Italian Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR) to help us develop and implement a systematic approach to mobility in service to Italian universities.  This funding greatly strengthens ISSNAF’s ability to scale up these activities.

​

Over 150 ISSNAF members have already joined the mobility program and have listed specific hosting opportunities available to Italian students in a wide range of disciplines.

 

This approach enables students from ISSNAF’s Italian university partners to engage in study and research experiences at world-class institutions without the need for formal agreements between the respective institutions.

PARTNERS

This program supports Italian universities’ internationalization activities under the guidelines of MUR.

Italian universities and Institutions through a multi-year formal partnership with ISSNAF have the unique opportunity to offer their deserving students outstanding mobility experiences while fostering long-term research collaborations and synergies with leading North American institutions.

  • Politecnico di Torino

  • Scuola Superiore di Studi Avanzati, Sapienza

  • Università di Firenze

  • Università di Pavia

  • Università di Pisa

HOW IT WORKS

1) ISSNAF signs with each partner a MoU and an implementation letter that identifies actions and activities to be carried out and the ways each partner wishes to manage the mobility of their students.

 

2) ISSNAF provides its partners with a catalog of hosting opportunities.
The catalog includes a list of ISSNAF members covering several different disciplines as well as numerous prestigious universities and research centers of international renown.
 

3) The Partner Institution issues a call for applications to select qualified and talented students for these opportunities.
These opportunities are primarily intended for students seeking mobility periods for activities related to:

  • Master's thesis

  • Advanced research projects within a PhD program

4) The selection process may vary according to the specific requirements of each partner and is typically carried out in full collaboration with ISSNAF representatives.

5) ISSNAF works with each eligible applicant and, starting from their academic or research interests and proposed project, actively seeks the most suitable hosting opportunity within its network of members. Furthermore, ISSNAF can extend its support by reaching out to professors and researchers beyond its network, thereby increasing the mobility opportunities available to students.

 

6) ISSNAF facilitates all steps necessary for the host and the candidate to refine the research project to be developed during the mobility and assist students with information on all practical and administrative processes (visa, insurance etc).
